I’d hold you up to say to your mother, “this kid’s gonna be the best kid in the world. This kid’s gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew.” And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great just watching you, every day was like a privilige. Then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world, and you did. But somewhere along the line, you changed. You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you’re no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that! I’m always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You’re my son and you’re my blood. You’re the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain’t gonna have a life. Don’t forget to visit your mother.
1 Corinthians 9:24 Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize. 25 Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last forever. 26 That is why I run straight for the finish line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches. 27 I harden my body with blows and bring it under complete control, to keep myself from being disqualified after having called others to the contest.
Hebrews 12:1 As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us.
Lets get rid of the doubt, fears, worries, concerns, past mistakes, failures, addictions, lets get rid of the sin, that we habitually do on a daily basis, so that we can run the race that lies before us. Because if we can’t get rid of these things that are holding us back, we won’t fully see what it is that God has for us, we won’t be able to run the race without looking back, and we can’t look back we need to look forward. Every race that I have ever run, I had to look forward, I couldn’t look back to see what was behind me, because if I did, I would’ve tripped and fallen. Lets look forward to the race that God has placed in our lives today, and run with nothing hindering us, or slowing us down.
I love the quote from Rocky because it talks about how people point fingers, and blame the other person for not being where we are. I could’ve easily done that, I could’ve easily said well I’m not where I want to be because of what happened to me in my life, because of the way I was born. Because no one was helping me (besides my parent’s) get through this life, but I learned with my parent’s help, that I had to do things on my own, and keep pushing forward on my own, and to realize I didn’t need anyone else’s help.
