Who Do You Say He is

Was he a poet turned
Radical politician
Trying to start a revolution
A preacher on a mission
Talking bout fishing
In a new kind of kingdom
Or a small town wannabe tired
Of carpentry
Carving out a little fame
John or Elijah, teacher
Messiah
Or just someone trying to
Make a name
Could the one we know as
Mary’s son
Be the long awaited Holy One
So you’re a cynic
Oh, well I get it
It’s hard to trust what you
Can’t see
You’ve been broken
How can you hope in
Or believe in a mystery
Oh, you oughta know, gotta
Know where you stand
Who do you say that I am
Who do you say that I am
Two thousand years counting
The question’s still mounting
The answer’s still
A mustard seed
Science can’t prove it
Critics accuse it
Of being a crutch for the weak
And the leper’s still leaping
The blind man seeing
Is just a nice fairy tale
Fact or fiction, are we all
Just wishin’
On pennies down in a well
While you’re weary wrestling
With the truth
Could the truth be reaching
Out to you
So you’re a cynic
Oh, well I get it
It’s hard to trust what you
Can’t see
You’ve been broken
How can you hope in
Or believe in a mystery
Oh, you oughta know, gotta
Know where you stand
Who do you say that I am
Who do you say that I am
Though they question if I’m
Just a man
Still the answer is who you say
That I am
So you’re a cynie
Oh, well I get it
It’s hard to trust what you
Can’t see
You’ve been broken
How can you hope in
Or believe in a mystery
All of your questions
Just keep you guessing
When all you want is to be free
Oh you oughta know, gotta
Know where you stand
Who do you say that i am
Oh you oughta know, gotta
Know where you stand
Who do you say that i am
Who do you say that i am
Who do you say that i am

This is a song by David Phelps, called Who do You say off of his new Album, I really enjoy it, not because it’s a song with good lyrics, and good musically, but it’s comes from a Biblical context.

Matthew 16:13-20 Living Bible (TLB)

13 When Jesus came to Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who are the people saying I am?”

14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist; some, Elijah; some, Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

15 Then he asked them, “Who do you think I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “The Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 “God has blessed you, Simon, son of Jonah,” Jesus said, “for my Father in heaven has personally revealed this to you—this is not from any human source. 18 You are Peter, a stone; and upon this rock I will build my church; and all the powers of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; whatever doors you lock on earth shall be locked in heaven; and whatever doors you open on earth shall be open in heaven!”

20 Then he warned the disciples against telling others that he was the Messiah.

Before we go on, lets look at that last verse, Jesus tells his disciples, do not tell anyone else that He was the Messiah.  He is the savior of the world, He is the one sent by his father, to save the world, to eventually die on the cross for our sins, yet, He tells his disciples do not tell anyone that I am the Messiah.  My one question, is you are the savior of the world, why wouldn’t you want the twelve disciples that we see later on going around the world telling others who He is, but not than, not at that time?  What was special about that time, that Jesus didn’t want his disciples telling others who He was.

How do we show Christ to others, do we go to church on Sunday, and live like the world the rest of the week, do we say that He is Lord on Sunday, and curse him on Monday.  Do we say Christ is Love, but don’t show love to our friends in need.

Here are several Bible verses, that gives examples to Show that Christ is God, the Messiah.

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

“‘BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,’ which translated means, ‘GOD WITH US.'” (Matthew 1:23)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being … And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1-3, 14)

My last question is this, Who do you say that He is, do you say He is a prophet, a psycho, that walked this earth, lunatic, do you think he is/was crazy, for saying He was God.  Or Maybe you don’t think God, or a god exists, hopefully you will view this blog, and reconsider that belief.  Who Do You say He is.
