In my book, Overcomer: Discovering God’s Plan Against All Odds, I talk about a very sensitive topic – relationships, and finding the wife that God has for me. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get a girlfriend or get married. I also wonder if I haven’t gotten the girlfriend because of my appearance. I wrote this because it’s something that is very real in my life. It’s something I live with daily, and I hope at some point to get married. In this day and age the way people look is everything, unfortunately. People are attracted by what they see on the outside, which is normal, but the question really should be, what’s on the inside?
I was on the Aperts Page on Facebook the other day, and my heart was breaking. Both parents and people with Aperts were discussing this. They were wondering if they would ever find someone to marry. Because of our outward appearance we do not realize just how beautiful we are.
I want to encourage those that feel like they’re not beautiful or handsome, or that feel as though they aren’t good-looking enough to get married. It’s tough, and it’s certainly not an easy situation. I even have had to learn this lesson, and at times I’m still learning this lesson. You can’t worry about what you look like on the outside. Learn your worth, realize that you are beautiful and handsome on the inside. We can’t go through life talking down to ourselves and telling ourselves that we’re not pretty, good-looking or handsome, even if others don’t think we are.
We need to speak life into our hearts and minds. We can’t speak death or negativity. I don’t care what others think of me or how they view me. I tell myself that I am handsome and good-looking because God created me this way, and if this is the way God created me, I am His Masterpiece. Masterpieces aren’t ugly. They are perfect. They are the cream of the crop, and that’s how you have to view yourself.
Know this – God loves you no matter how other people see you or think about you. If it’s God’s will you will find that man or woman who God has for you. I am believing that at some point, regardless of what I look like, that I will get married because the woman who God has for me will be attracted to me, but even more importantly, she will look at my heart.
Psalms 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the Desires of Your heart.”
